Matthew C. Whitaker, Ph.D. is the Founder and CEO of Diamond Strategies, LLC., and Executive Director of the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center in Phoenix. He founded the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at Arizona State University, where was a professor of history for 15 years.

He is a martial artist, having studied Wushu Kung Fu for years. He is a foodie, loves athletics, science fiction, travel, and lives in Mesa, Arizona, with his wife and four children.

Why do you choose to serve with AZCEND?

My commitment to addressing food and housing insecurity is deeply personal, since I experienced both as a child. The awareness and generosity of others gave my single mother desperately needed lifelines and underwrote my success. I have a responsibility to give back and I do so with hope and happiness.
