AZCEND announces leadership transition plan and Interim CEO appointment

Today AZCEND shared an update on a leadership transition plan designed to ensure steady, consistent oversight of the organization’s mission and day-to-day operations serving neighbors facing hunger, poverty and homelessness.

After thoughtful consideration, Chief Executive Officer Trinity Donovan announced she will be transitioning from her role, with her departure set for March 6, 2026.

“AZCEND and the people who power our mission mean so much to me,” Donovan said. “Leading AZCEND has been one of the greatest privileges of my professional life, and I am deeply grateful to have worked alongside this community to care for our neighbors in need.”

Board appoints Interim CEO to ensure continuity

AZCEND’s Board of Directors has appointed Steve Hewitt, the organization’s current Director of Operations, to serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer following Donovan’s departure.

“I have great confidence in Steve and in the strength of this leadership team,” Donovan said.

Hewitt will work closely with AZCEND’s leadership team and Board to maintain continuity across programs, staff operations and community partnerships during the transition.

Comprehensive CEO search underway

The Board will also partner with a professional search firm to conduct a comprehensive process to identify AZCEND’s next permanent CEO. The Board’s approach reflects a commitment to long-term stability and thoughtful leadership stewardship in support of AZCEND’s mission.

“AZCEND is well-led and focused on its mission,” Donovan shared. “Our Board of Directors is intentionally guiding the transition process to ensure continued stability and impact.”

Programs and services continue without interruption

AZCEND emphasized that all programs and services will continue without interruption throughout the leadership transition. The organization remains financially and operationally strong with continued focus on meeting urgent needs and strengthening stability for individuals and families.

“AZCEND’s mission—and the impact our community makes possible—moves forward without pause,” Donovan said. “Our programs, partnerships and services continue without interruption.”

Trinity Donovan to continue community service in new role

Donovan also announced she has accepted the role of the first Director of the Gilbert Advocacy Center for the Town of Gilbert. The opportunity allows her to continue advancing work that strengthens community wellbeing and supports neighbors during vulnerable moments.

“This role allows me to continue serving our community in a new capacity,” Donovan said. “I’m grateful to continue supporting neighbors during some of their most vulnerable moments.”

Gratitude to donors, partners and the community

Donovan expressed deep appreciation to the funders, partners, donors and community members who have supported AZCEND’s work.

“Because of generous donors and caring volunteers, thousands of neighbors in need have found a lifeline of food, safety and shelter along with the support they needed to get back on their feet,” Donovan said. “It has been an honor to serve…and I am confident that AZCEND’s mission will continue to thrive.”

AZCEND’s Board of Directors echoed appreciation for Donovan’s leadership and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to a seamless transition centered on mission impact.
